ZE:A 「PHOENIX」 “Look forward to the growth of our appearance to an adult”

On 24 August ZE:A released their second Album 「PHOENIX」Japan had been looking forward to. It ranked 2nd place on the Oricon daily charts, and it’s been decided that in October they’ll have live concerts in Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya.
「Kstyle」 had an interview with ZE:A, who came to Japan for some promotional events. They answered the questions from their fans we received on Kstyle, with a harmonious atmosphere around them. We talked about a wide range of activities with each of the members, dramas, musicals and new unit formations. This is the interview that shows the true face of the cheerful members of ZE:A.
How was it to sing your new song 「PHOENIX」(Japanese ver.)? How do you feel about it?
All: It’s a very nice song.
Minwoo: But to be honest, it was a bit hard on us. The dance was harder than usual…but, it’s really cool, so I want everyone to see it.
Starting with「PHOENIX」, you guys sing in Japanese in this album. Do you have a favorite phrase?
Dongjun: I like the chorus of 「Never End」 “Furimuite kure Kasaneta hibi wa”best. Because this part is really easy to sing, so I can put my feelings in it.
Hyungsik: I don’t have any parts I like more than others. Because the whole song makes one story, I like 「PHOENIX」completely.
Minwoo: I have a part I like! “ougon ni hikaru tsubasa wo~~” (while singing) Because it’s my part of course.
Dongjun: Because we all sing the parts we have confidence in, we usually like our own parts best. (laughs)
The lyrics of 「PHOENIX」 hold an passionate ambition, but which member is most passionate?
Hyungsik: Donjun and Kevin are most passionate!
Minwoo: Dongjun is a powerful person who naturally overflows with energy. He gives the feeling he’ll burst into flames. Just like a PHOENIX! His passion is really overflowing.
Dongjun: I wouldn’t really say I’m powerful, it’s just that I can’t calm myself down…….
From here on we’ll ask question of ZE:A’s fans. Compared to 「PHOENIX」’s powerful image, the dance of「NEVER END」gives off a more sexy impression. Which of the members dancing is most sexy?
All: Kevin!
Dongjun: Kevin and… Heecheol is sexy too! It’s more than sexy, it’s sensual…… no, that’s a joke (laughs) But, even from a guys perspective it feels sexy. Just「NEVER END」’s choreography already proofs that. Please check out their sexiness.
If you could become one of the other members for a day?
Hyungsik: I’m the coolest, it’s great.
Heecheol: I don’t think I’d want to become one of the other members. Because I’m satisfied with my own body, no matter how hard I try, I don’t think I can imagine becoming one of the other members.
Minwoo: I want to become Kevin! I want to travel around being Kevin. Why? Because his English is great! I want to go to America and Australia.
Kwanghee: Kevin. I want to sing like Kevin, and I want to dance with Kevin’s body.
Kevin: I want to become Kwanghee! Kwanghee is really popular with many people, I want to become a character that receives a lot of love of many people. I want to feel how a top star lives.
Kwanghee: I’m not that popular. (laughs)
Dongjun: I want to be Keving. Because his singing is great, his dancing is great and he’s sexy. (Laughs)
Taeheon: I want to be Dongjun. I want to experience Dongjun’s bodily sensation of having a powerful body that’s overflowing with energy.
Dongjun, isn’t it troublesome to be the youngest?
Dongjun: Ahaha, it’s okay. The other members are older, but we’re getting along like friends. It’s really great.
On the contrary, from the point of view of the other members, what kind of maknae is Dongjun?
Heecheol: He’s a cool maknae. Because he’s manly, he feels like a friend, but also like a little brother.
Kevin: To me he feels like a little rascal.
Who’s most popular?
Hyungsik: Me? (laugsh)
Kevin: Hyungsik is really popular. He’s tall, has a nice face and sings well……. Hyungsik has a this motherly-love-when-she-wakes-you-up atmosphere around him. He’s popular with girls older than him. Because he has lots of money and owns many cars.
Kwanghee is also popular, right?
Kwanghee: That’s right…… I’m popular. But it’s not good to say that myself, right? (laugh)
Kevin: Kwanghee is really popular as an artist.
Kwanghee: I’ll be really happy if Japanese girls also tell me they like me.
In Japan there are many fans of Kwanghee.
Kwanghee: Really? I don’t believe it! I’m so happy!
I have a question for you from a fan. (laugh) Why are you so good at winking?
Kwanghee: I was born like that (laughs)
Minwoo: He’s really good at winking, but I never saw him practice.
Kwanghee: I don’t need to practice!
You guys really get along right? What do you guys do at home?
Taeheon: Games! But we hardly have time to play any with everyone…….
Hyungsik: Kwanghee goes shopping, Dongjun exercises and I watch dramas.
Dongjun: I watch dramas too. I watched the Japanese drama “ai nante iranee yo, natsu”. I reallywanted to try out the hair style of the main character.
Minwoo: Besides that, we watched a drama starring Aragaki Yui.
Kwanghee: I want to appear in a Japanese drama. In “Ikemen Paradise! (laughs)
At this moment Kwanghee appears in the Korean version of “Hanazakari no kimitachi he”, right? Lately, if you’re good at acting, you’re called and“act-dol”. Do you guys watch dramas together and give your thoughts or advice?
Taeheon: Kwanghee speaks to fast! We are monitoring all of Kwanghee’s drama appearances, and his expression and acting are all really good. I think it’d be good if he’d speak a bit more slowly. But, he’s really good and cool.
Kwanghee: That’s our director Taeheon. (laughs)
Do you guys watch any dramas Siwan appear in?
Kevin: Siwan is also really cool! But, we already know Siwan is good, so we often don’t watch it. (laughs)
Hyungsik: Because we have to practice when Siwan has shoots or his shows are broadcasted, there’s no time to watch it.
Dongjun: But, I really think both Kwanghee and Siwan are really good.
Right now, 「PHOENIX」is released and a propaganda bus is driving around Japan. How do you guys feel about your own bus going around Japan?
Kevin: To be honest, I haven’t seen that bus at all. Minwoo said he saw it though.
Dongjun: I haven’t seen the real thing, but I’m really happy. I feel satisfied. I’m really grateful to the staff who did this. It’ll become our driving force.
Last, a message to your Japanese fans.
Heecheol: It’s been some time since we came here. Last time we came as boys, but this time we came back with our adult appearance. Because we want to show you our more mature and cool appearance, please look forward to iAt!
